Warm Home Girls Aim Higher

20.06.2017

For the past three years, students from the Behavioral Sciences department in Zefat Academic College have been participating in a unique project in which they receive practical training in the Warm Homes of Northern Goals. The training is a part of an academic course “Empowering women and girls in organizations” and it includes leading empowerment processes as well as individual and group work with the girls in the Warm Home.   The experienced staff of the Warm Home provides expert guidance to the students, which adds to the theoretical background from their academic studies.

At the end of the school year we celebrated the collaboration of field work and academic studies, which is aimed at promoting the well-being of women and girls, in a special event at Zefat College.

72 girls and staff from 4 Warm Homes attended the event. It was a great opportunity to bring together the different groups, to empower the girls and expose them to the world of academia. The event enabled the girls to discuss their aspirations and dreams about higher education.

Girls and staff took part in discussion groups moderated by Behavioral Sciences students, a presentation of the College’s faculties, admission requirements, and a debate over the issue of vocational choices and future vision. After the positive, guided exposure to the subject of higher education, which for most of the girls had seemed intimidating if not impossible, the girls felt that an academic degree could be part of their life plan.
