Steps - Early Childhood Services

Steps is a structured collection of programs and services designed to advance the field of early childhood in the North. Steps brings a professional response to the shortage of quality early childhood services in the region, covering the needs of prevention, identification and treatment of developmental problems, and enrichment, for children aged birth through 9 years and their families.

In parallel, Steps trains the educational and care staff working with this age-group so that the benefits of the intervention are widespread and long-lasting.

Northern Goals operates 12 Early Childhood Centers in Jewish, Druze and Bedouin towns; two Daycare Centers; and a wide range of programs to promote healthy development in 20 additional localities.

Early Childhood Centers

An Early Childhood Center (ECC) is a central, coordinating location that provides multi-disciplinary, educational-therapeutic intervention, including paramedical and psychological services and enrichment programs for children and their parents. While each ECC is planned and built according to the needs of the local community, as a rule they contain the following elements:

  • Child Development Unit – assesses developmental delays and difficulties, treats them through paramedical interventions and follows up on the child's therapeutic program.
  • Enrichment Unit – offers activities for children and their parents, designed to prevent gaps and empower parents in their roles as primary educators.
  • Training Unit – provides professional training and support to educational and care-giving staffs and to parents.

Alongside these units, the ECC's hold professional meetings, workshops and courses, community events and educational and enrichment programs for children and parents.

Daycare Centers

Northern Goals' Daycare Centers operate with the framework of the local Early Childhood Centers, and provide high quality care and attention to children aged 3 months to 3 years.
